Active hyperemia



Active Hyperemia is a term used to describe a dilation of arteriolar smooth muscle to increase blood flow in response to an increase in metabolism. As tissue or organs increase their metabolic activity they will consume more oxygen and produce more metabolites (products of metabolism ).
