Abductive reasoning

Abduction, or inference to the best explanation, is a method of reasoning employed in the sciences in which one chooses which hypothesis would, if true, best explain the relevant evidence. In other words, it is the reasoning process that starts from a set of facts and derives their most likely explanations.
