Adkins catalyst

The Adkins catalyst is a copper chromite or copper chromium oxide catalyst used in the hydrogenation of ester compounds to the corresponding alcohols. For example, sebacion derived from an intramolecular acyloin condensation of dimethyl sebacate is hydrogenated to 1,2-cyclodecanediol by this catalyst at high hydrogen gas pressure (135 atm) and 150 °C in a so-called hydrogenation bomb.
