Binary point The binary point is simply the binary equivalent of the decimal point. It is used in textual representations of binary numbers to designate the transisition from integer digit locations (where values represent non-negative powers of 2) to fractional digit locations (where values represent negative powers of 2).
Binary prefix In computing, binary prefixes (IEC 60027-2/IEEE 1541) can be used to quantify large numbers where powers of two are more useful than powers of ten. Each successive prefix is multiplied by 1024 (210) rather than the 1000 (103) used by the SI prefix system.
