Battle of Ap Bac
The Battle of Ap Bac was a small-scale action early in the Vietnam War that resulted in the first major combat victory by Viet Cong guerrillas against regular South Vietnamese forces. The battle took place on January 2, 1963, near the hamlet ("ap" in Vietnamese) of Bac, 65 kilometers southwest of Saigon in the Mekong Delta.
