Unlike many other of the battles of the civil war, this was more a campaign of maneuvre than actual fighting.
Battle of Ilipa The Battle of Ilipa was arguably Scipio Africanus’s most brilliant victory in his military career during the Second Punic War. Though it may not seem to be as original as Hannibal’s tactic in Cannae, Scipio's pre-battle maneuver and his Reverse Cannae formation was still a culmination of his tactical ability, in which he forever broke the Carthaginian hold in Spain, thus denying any further land invasion into Italy and a rich base for the Barca Dynasty both in silver and manpower.
Battle of Imafuku The Battle of Imafuku was fought in late November of 1614 between the forces of Tokugawa Ieyasu and the Toyotomi. This battle was one of the first of the series of battles fought near Osaka over the course of two years.

Battle of Inkerman The Battle of Inkerman, a battle of the Crimean War, was fought on November 5, 1854 and resulted in a British and French victory under General Bosquet against the Russian forces under General Menshikov. In this battle British soldiers fought bravely under the remote leadership of Lord Raglan.
Battle of Inverlochy (1431) The Battle of Inverlochy was fought in September 1431 after Alexander, Earl of Ross and Lord of the Isles, had been imprisoned by King James I. A force of highlanders led by Donald Balloch, Alexander's nephew, defeated Royalist forces led by the Earls of Mar and Caithness at Inverlochy, near present-day Fort William.
Battle of Inverurie (1308) The Battle of Inverurie, also known as the Battle of Barra, was fought in May 1308 in the north-east of Scotland. Though part of the wider Wars of Scottish Independence it is more properly viewed as an episode in a brief but bitter civil war.
Battle of Ipsus The Battle of Ipsus was fought between some of the Diadochi (the successors of Alexander the Great) in 301 BC near the village of that name in Phrygia. Antigonus I Monophthalmus and his son Demetrius I of Macedon were pitted against the coalition of three other companions of Alexander: Cassander, ruler of Macedon; Lysimachus, ruler of Thrace; and Seleucus I Nicator, ruler of Babylonia and Persia.
Battle of Irish Bend The Battle of Irish Bend, also known as Nierson's Wood or Franklin, was fought between Union Major General Nathaniel Prentice Banks against Confederate Major General Richard Taylor during Banks's operations against the Bayou Teche region in southern Louisiana.
Battle of Ishibashiyama The was the first in which Minamoto no Yoritomo, who was to become shogun less than a decade later, was commander of the Minamoto forces. In this, his first attempt to challenge the Taira, he was assisted by warriors from the Miura clan.
Battle of Island Number Ten The Battle of Island Number Ten was a military engagement on the Mississippi River during the American Civil War. Union land and naval forces besieged and captured the island in early 1862, further opening the river.
Battle of Issus The Battle of Issus (or more commonly The Battle at Issus) occurred in southern Anatolia, on November 333 BC. The invading troops led by the young Alexander of Macedonia, outnumbered roughly 3:1, defeated the army personally led by Darius III of Persia in the second great battle for primacy in Asia.
