Battle of Issus (194) The Battle of Issus was the third major battle, following the Battle of Nicaea, in 194 between the forces of Emperor Septimus Severus and his rival, Pescennius Niger, Roman governor of Syria who had been acclaimed Emperor by his troops, like Severus, following the death of Pertinax. Severus won decisively, Niger fled back to Antioch and was later killed while attempting to flee to Parthia.
Battle of Issus (622) Also known as the 'Third Battle of Issus, the battle was fought between the Eastern Roman Emperor (or 'Byzantine Emperor') Heraclius and the Sassanid Empire at the strategic ground near the small riverine town of Issus below the difficult inland mountains in 622, now in the Turkish Province of Hatay. Emperor Heraclius transported his army through the Aegean sea and unexpectedly defeated the Persian army in the decisive battle of Issus.

Battle of Jarnac The Battle of Jarnac was an encounter during the French Wars of Religion that occurred on March 13, 1569 between the Catholic forces of Marshal Gaspard de Saulx, sieur de Tavannes, and the Huguenots led by Louis I de Bourbon, prince de Condé, who was killed in the encounter. The forces met at Jarnac on the right bank of the river Charente between the towns of Angoulême and Cognac.
