Dark romanticism
Dark romanticism, also referred to as anti-transcendentalism, is a label applied to some gothic fiction. The birth of this movement can be seen as a reaction to both industrialisation and transcendentalism, as many found the transcendentalists too optimistic and humans inherently selfish.
