Effi Briest
Effi Briest (1894) is realist Theodor Fontane's masterpiece and one of the most famous German novels of all time. Thomas Mann is quoted, in the liner notes of one German edition of Effi Briest, as saying that if one had to reduce one's library to six novels, Effi Briest would have to be one of them .
