Early Middle Ages
The Early Middle Ages are a period in the history of Europe following the fall of the Western Roman Empire, spanning roughly the five centuries from AD 500 to 1000.Events used to mark the period's beginning include the sack of Rome by the Goths (410), the deposition of the last western Roman Emperor (476), and the Gothic War (535–552).
