Earthquake preparedness Earthquake preparedness refers to a variety of measures designed to help individuals, businesses, and local and state governments in earthquake prone areas to prepare for significant earthquakes. Preparedness measures are part of the emergency management cycle, and can be refined through the use of a good Earthquake scenario.
Earthquake scenario An Earthquake scenario is a planning tool to determine the correct emergency responses, and to outline possible high-risk areas. It uses the basics of seismic hazard studies, but usually places a set earthquake on a specific fault, most likely near a high-population area.
Earthquake storm An earthquake storm is a recently proposed theory about earthquakes where an earthquake can trigger a series of other large earthquakes within the same tectonic plate as the stress transfers along the fault. This is similar to the idea of aftershocks, except they take place years apart.
