Fernald Closure Project

The Fernald Closure Project is a program run by the United States Department of Energy to clean up a former uranium processing site near Fernald, Ohio. From 1951 to 1989, the plant produced 170,000 metric tons uranium (MTU) metal products and 35,000 MTU of intermediate compounds, such as uranium trioxide and uranium tetrafluoride.
