Federation of Arab Republics
The Federation of Arab Republics (Arabic اتŘاد الجمهŮريات العربية, ittiħÄd al-jumhĹ«riyyÄt al-`arabiyya, literally "Union of Arab Republics") was an abortive attempt by Libya's Muammar al-Qaddafi to merge Libya, Egypt, and Syria, creating a pan-Arab state. Although approved by referenda in each country in March 1972, the three countries disagreed on the specific terms of the merger.
