German Democratic Republic border system



The GDR border system (also called the inner German border; in German, Innerdeusche Grenze or Deutsch-Deutsche Grenze) was an extensive system of fortifications that ran the entire 1381 km (858 mile) length of the border between East Germany (the German Democratic Republic, or GDR) and West Germany (the Federal Republic of Germany, or FRG).
