Gamma-Hydroxybutyric acid



gamma-Hydroxybutyric acid (4-hydroxybutanoic acid, C4H8O3) is both a drug and a naturally occurring substance found in the central nervous system where it might act as a neurotransmitter, as well as in other organs such as the liver, kidneys, heart and bones. GHB is structurally related to the ketone body beta-hydroxybutyrate.
