Hans Wilhelm Frei
Hans Wilhelm Frei (1922-1988) is best known for work on biblical hermeneutics, especially on the interpretation of narrative. His 1974 book, The Eclipse of Biblical Narrative (Yale University Press) is an influential history of eighteenth- and nineteenth century biblical hermeneutics in England and Germany; The Identity of Jesus Christ (Fortress Press, 1975) tried to show what kind of theology (specifically Christology) would cohere with a renewed attention to the narrative nature of the Gospels.
