Headshunt

A headshunt (US: escape track) is a short length of track that allows a locomotive to uncouple from its train and run past it. Headshunts may be used at a terminal station to allow the locomotive to switch to the opposite end of its train using a 'run-round loop', so the train can be hauled out of the station in the other direction.
