Haitian general election, 1990–1991
The presidential election in HaĂŻti in 1990 is often cited as the first democratic election in the country's history. It was won by Jean-Bertrand Aristide, who was sworn in as President of HaĂŻti on 1991-02-07; he was deposed in a coup d'Ă©tat just eight months later.
