H. T. Lowe-Porter
Helen Tracy Lowe-Porter was a translator who enjoyed the exclusive right to translate the works of Thomas Mann from German into English for more than fifty years. Although her versions have minor defects, Lowe-Porter's Mann translations have, to a very great extent, helped create the popularity of this German (and very Germanic) writer in the English-speaking world.
