HAMP



HAMP (hepcidin antimicrobial peptide) is a human gene that instructs cells to manufacture a small protein called hepcidin, which was originally identified as having antimicrobial properties. Researchers recently discovered that hepcidin plays a role in maintaining iron balance in humans.
