Imperial Life in the Emerald City

Imperial Life in the Emerald City: Inside Iraq's Green Zone by Rajiv Chandrasekaran is a critical look at the civilian leadership of the American reconstruction project in Iraq. Centered mainly on the actions of the Coalition Provisional Authority, Chandrasekaran details the absurdities, incompetence, and bureaucratic failings which prevented a timely transfer of power to the Iraqis and bred the growing insurgency, as well as the idealism and willful self-delusion that prevented American leadership from seeing the true state of affairs in Iraq.
