Ian Trethowan
Sir Ian Trethowan (October 20 1922 – December 12 1990) was Director-General of the BBC from October 1 1977 to July 31 1982, having previously been Managing Director of BBC Network Radio from 1970 to 1976. He had earlier been a presenter for Independent Television News in the late 1950s and early 1960s, before moving to the BBC around 1963.
