Ice-nine
Ice-nine is a fictional material conceived by science fiction writer Kurt Vonnegut in his novel Cat's Cradle. It is supposed to be a special allotrope of ice that, when it comes into contact with liquid water, acts as a crystal "seed", and will catalyze the solidification (freezing) of any normal water at ambient temperatures—thus being capable of destroying the world as we know it.
