J. Melville Broughton
Joseph Melville Broughton (born 17 November 1888 Raleigh, North Carolina - died 6 March 1949 Bethesda, Maryland) was the Democratic governor of the state of North Carolina from 1941 to 1945. A lawyer by training (and a graduate of Harvard Law School), Broughton worked as a school principal and journalist before actively entering the legal profession.
