James Walker Tufts
James Walker Tufts (1835 – 1902) owner of the American Soda Foundation purchased 5000 acres (20 km²) of land for $5000 in North Carolina for a new town. Known as Tuftstown during development, it became Pinehurst, home of the Pinehurst Resort.
