James O. Freedman
James Oliver Freedman (September 21, 1935 - March 21, 2006), who had previously served as Dean of the University of Pennsylvania Law School, served as the fifteenth president of Dartmouth College, from 1987-98. A graduate of Harvard College and Yale Law School, Freedman continued the Dartmouth tradition of being one of the national leaders in both undergraduate teaching and scholarship.
