Jean-Baptiste Labat
Jean-Baptiste Labat (sometimes called, simply, Père Labat) (1663-1738), French clergyman, botanist, writer, explorer, ethnographer, soldier, engineer, and landowner. Born in Paris, he entered the order of the Dominicans at the age of twenty.
