James Kenward
James Macara Kenward (1908–94), English author and illustrator of the 1930s, ’40s and ’50s best known for his accounts of suburban and prep school life, was born on 1st January 1908 in Lewisham, the son of the Lloyds insurance broker who invented rain insurance. He received his prep school education at Ripple Vale School near Deal in Kent until entering Brighton College in 1919.
