Janissary
The Janissaries (or janizaries; in Ottoman Turkish: ŮŠŮيچرى (yeniçeri, meaning "new soldier"); in Albanian:Jeniçer; Greek: ΓενίτĎαĎοι; (Yenitsari) in Bulgarian: еничари (enichari) or яничари (yanichari); in Bosnian: JanjiÄŤari; in Serbian: Đањичари or JanjiÄŤari; in Romanian: ieniceri; in Arabic: الانŮشارية) comprised infantry units that formed the Ottoman sultan's household troops and bodyguard. The force originated in the 14th century; it was abolished by Sultan Mahmud II in 1826 in The Auspicious Incident.
