Khmelnytsky Uprising
Khmelnytsky Uprising (also Chmielnicki Uprising or Khmelnytsky/Chmielnicki Rebellion) refers to a rebellion in the lands of in present-day Ukraine which raged from 1648-1654. Under the command of Hetman Bohdan Khmelnytsky, Cossacks allied with Crimean Tatars, along with the local Ruthenian peasantry, fought several battles against the armies of the the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth, and eradicated the control of the Polish Szlachta, Roman Catholic priests and Jewish arendators in the area.
