Laryngeal theory

The laryngeals were three (or more) consonant sounds that appear in most current reconstructions of the Proto-Indo-European language. The evidence for them is mostly indirect except when a laryngeal between consonants appears as a vowel, but some laryngeals are directly attested in the Anatolian languages. Their original phonetic values remain controversial.
