Laurean Cardinal Rugambwa (July 12, 1912 – December 8, 1997) was appointed Archbishop of Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania in 1968. He is understood to be the first African Cardinal and was active in the post-Vatican Council II reform of the Catholic
