Larry Stanton

Larry Stanton, born June 21, 1947, was a Manhattan-based outsider portraitist and painter, championed by David Hockney, Henry Geldzahler, and others. He was a handsome and charismatic gay man who lived, somewhat like Ray Johnson, in very reduced circumstances in an apartment his father gave him (and later in another small apartment in Greenwich Village), and he struggled to learn to paint and draw.
