Malcolm Ross (balloonist)



Malcolm Ross (born in 1919), was a Captain in the US Navy, and a balloonist who set several records for altitude: in 1956, he piloted a balloon to 86,000 feet for the US Navy; in 1959, he took Charles B. Moore to 89,000 feet so that they could perform spectrographic analysis of the planet Venus with minimal interference from Earth's atmosphere and on May 5], [[1961, he successfully piloted a manned balloon into the stratosphere, setting an altitude record of 113,740 feet
