Malmesbury, Western Cape
Malmesbury lies in an area known as the Swartland (â€black land’) due to the rich dark soil that becomes visible when the vast golden wheat fields are ploughed. Settlers were encouraged to make their home here because of a tepid sulphur chloride mineral spring that was renowned for curing rheumatism.
