Manuel Pinto da Costa



Manuel Pinto da Costa (born 1937) is an economist who was the President of São Tomé and Príncipe from the country's independence in 1975 until 1991. He instituted a one-party, socialist state under the Movement for the Liberation of São Tomé and Príncipe (MLSTP).
