Madras State



Madras State was the former name of the present day state of Tamil Nadu, India. When India became independent in 1947, Madras Presidency, a province of British India, was reconstituted as Madras State, comprising of Tamil Nadu and parts of present day Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala.
