MacConkey agar
MacConkey agar is a culture medium designed to grow Gram-negative bacteria and stain them for lactose fermentation. It contains bile salts, crystal violet dye (to inhibit Gram-positive bacteria), neutral red dye (which stains microbes fermenting lactose), lactose and peptone.
