Malmedy massacre
The Malmedy massacre refers to a war crime (assassination of disarmed American prisoners of war) perpetrated on December 17 1944 by Kampfgruppe Peiper (part of the 1st SS Panzer Division), a German ad hoc combat unit, during the battle of the Bulge. This atrocity, as well as others committed by the same unit the same day and the next days, was the subject of a trial by the Dachau International Military Tribunal in 1946.
