Notophthalmus meridionalis The Black-spotted Newt or Texas Newt (Notophthalmus meridionalis) is a species of aquatic newt native predominantely to Mexico, in the states of Tamaulipas, Veracruz, San Luis PotosĂ­ and barely into northeastern Hidalgo, and Puebla. It ranges as far north as the United States, into the southern tip of Texas, along the Gulf of Mexico.
