Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act
The Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act (or NAGPRA) is a United States federal law passed in 1990 requiring that Native Americans cultural items be returned to their respective peoples if and when they have been excavated, and allows archeological teams a short time for analysis before the remains must be returned. "Cultural items" include human remains, funerary objects, sacred objects, and objects of cultural patrimony.
