Nawabs of Bengal
The Nawabs of Bengal were originally provincial governors under the Mughal empire. However, after the nawab Siraj Ud Daulah was defeated by the British forces of Sir Robert Clive at the Battle of Plassey in 1757 they became puppet rulers dependent on British power.
