Nicola people The Nicola people is a name used to describe an Athabaskan speaking group who inhabited the Nicola Valley near Merritt, British Columbia; they are sometimes known as the Nicola Athapaskans. Nicola Lake Nicola Lake is a glacially formed narrow, deep lake located in the south-central Interior of British Columbia approximately ten kilometres northeast of the city of Merritt. It was a centrepoint of the first settlements in the grasslands laying south of Kamloops, and today is used for recreation and as a water storage site to provide irrigation and water flows to fisheries downstream in the Nicola River.

Nicola people The Nicola people is a name used to describe an Athabaskan speaking group who inhabited the Nicola Valley near Merritt, British Columbia; they are sometimes known as the Nicola Athapaskans. Very little is known of them as by the mid-19th Century they were nearly extinct due to constant raiding by Thompson and Shuswap from outside the valley, and their surviving members were largely absorbed by the surrounding Scw'exmx, a branch of the Thompson people by the time of European contact, and also partly by the Spaxomin, a branch of the Okanagan people also in the valley who are also known as the Spahomin Band.

Nicola River The Nicola River is an important tributary of the Thompson River in the Canadian province of British Columbia, entering the latter at the town of Spences Bridge. It drains most of the northern Thompson Plateau, beginning near the very eastern edge of the plateau only 30 kilometres northwest of Kelowna, and flows from there more or less westward to feed Douglas and Nicola Lakes, with about 15 kilometres of the river's length between tose two lakes.
