2006 Queens blackout
An unresolved series of power outages struck the northwest section of Queens in July 2006, primarily affecting the neighborhoods of Astoria, Long Island City, Sunnyside, and Woodside. The outages affected some 100,000 people, caused airport and transit delays and cancellations, and caused unsavory living conditions due to a concurrent heat wave.
