2004 Summer Olympic bids
Five cities made the shortlist to host the 2004 Summer Olympics which were awarded to Athens, Greece on September 5, 1997. The other cities were Rome (Italy), Cape Town (South Africa), Stockholm (Sweden) and Buenos Aires (Argentina).
