Tactical manipulation of instant-runoff voting
Like virtually all voting systems, in instant-runoff voting (also known as the Alternative Vote) there is potential for both tactical voting and strategic nomination. Tactical voting is where voters do not vote in accordance with their true preferences, but instead vote insincerely in the hope that this will give their candidate a better chance of winning.
