Tekoteko

Tekoteko is a Māori term for any full figured human form (either the whole body or head), which is found in either freestanding form or attached to the gable of a whare (house). It was often carved in a defiant stance with tongue outstreched, Paua-shell eyes and holding a mere or taiaha, to ward off any intruders.
