Urban sprawl
Urban sprawl (also: suburban sprawl) refers to expansion of a metropolitan area, with largely uncontrolled new land use of previously less developed areas surrounding a more urban core. The term is typically used to describe suburbs, largely residential and often built in tracts by commercial developers.
