Unterseeboot 552 Unterseeboot 552 (oftern shortened to U-552) was a German submarine or U-boat which was built in 1940 for opertations during the Second Battle of the Atlantic in the Second World War. The boat was nicknamed the "Red Devil" (Roter Teufel) after its mascot or a grinning devil which was painted on the conning tower.
Unterseeboot 559 Unterseeboot 559 (or U-559) was a Type VIIC U-boat (or German submarine) of the Kriegsmarine built in 1941 at the Blohm & Voss shipyards in Hamburg. She was most famous for an incident following her capture in the Mediterranean in 1942, in which British sailors were able to seize cryptographic material from U-559 without the German crew's knowledge, which facilitated the reading of the U-boat Enigma cipher.
Unterseeboot 6 (1935) Unterseeboot 6 (usually abbreviated to U-6) was a long-lived but very inactive German U-boat built before World War II for service in the Kriegsmarine. As she was one of the first batch of boats built following the reunuciation of the Treaty of Versailles, she was a II type, and thus capable of only coastal and short cruising work.
Unterseeboot 69 (1940) The Unterseeboot 69, or U-69 was the first Type VIIC U-boat commissioned into the Kriegsmarine during the Second World War. This meant that in contrast to previous boats, it could travel further afield for longer, with a payload of eleven torpedoes, an 88 mm deck gun for smaller vessels, and a flak gun for aircraft.
