U.S. Route 66 Alternate (Joliet, Illinois)
Alternate US Highway 66 served as the original alignment of Route 66 until a new alignment was built, passing through Plainfield, Illinois as a bypass of Joliet in 1940. The alternate route branched off the main route near Romeoville and headed south, finally rejoining the main route at Gardner.
